This is the very first negative write up of Delta that i have seen in the Adelaide Advertiser. I was horrified to read this... well ok sure, its someones opinion but... oh and the photo was of her at the Australian Open in Jan but was captioned "Deltra Goodrem at Wimbledon watching Philippoussis play tennis". Ugh. Oh well, heres the article, and i'l leave the columnists email at the bottom. Fire at will.

Big song and dance about nothing at all

DELTA Goodrem is becoming Australia's Posh Spice. A good-looking girl swinging from the arm of an international sports star. Neither of them actually do anything.

Quite frankly, I'm getting bored with the delicious Delta. It's not enough just to look good.

We keep seeing glamorous images of Delta in all sorts of situations. Cuddling and kissing her boyfriend the gunnabe tennis star, Mark Philippoussis. Sipping iced tea at intimate cafes. Getting into a limo or out of a limo. Waiting to catch a plane or walking off a plane.

In the past week there she's been at Wimbledon, loyally standing by her man while sitting in the stand absorbing his serve and volley game. During the endless rain breaks she maintained her vigilance at her post.

But, like Posh welded limpet-style to English soccer hero David Beckham, she doesn't do anything. She exists in a fragile aura of fame simply because of who she is and, perhaps more important, who she is with.

Most famous people do things. Philippoussis plays tennis, Beckham plays soccer, Paul McCartney sings songs and John Howard does whatever Prime Ministers do. Delta does nothing.

True, at the age of 19 she has already achieved a good deal. She was a sensation in Neighbours, playing, I'm assured, the role of Nina. I must confess I have not watched her in a single episode. Her record album Innocent Eyes did pretty well, winning something like seven Aria awards. Again, I confess I have not consciously heard a note from it.

And her battle against cancer, her courage for one so young in the face of that sort of scare, was inspiring.

But that was then. Now she has become a tacky industry which does not produce a credible product. A picture without a frame. A pretty face surrounded by women's magazine cliches and London tabloid newspaper photographs. It is hype for the sake of hype.

We are assured, for example, that the love-struck Philippoussis was originally dazzled by Delta's beauty but then we get from him: "She's definitely even more beautiful on the inside. That's what I fell in love with, for sure." And: "She's very inspiring. Just a gorgeous girl with an incredible heart and always giving, always giving."

They sound suspiciously like lines from a public relations hand-out – or an episode of Neighbours.

Perhaps the endless publicity Delta commands is a commentary on our own lives.

Perhaps, by burying ourselves in a world of fantasy, we can exclude the harsh realities of the modern world.

I think Delta Goodrem is beautiful, too. I am pathetically envious of Philippoussis. I want to like her, I want to be fascinated by her every meaningless move. But I am bored. She is living the life of a soapie star, those plastic people who never seem to go either to work or to the toilet.

I don't want to switch on Wimbledon to be greeted with images of Delta in the high-rent seats, any more than I want to turn on the European Cup and see the ever-smiling Posh.

Advertiser television writer Simon Yeaman, who will not hear of any anti-Delta criticism, assures me the young maiden will return to new episodes of Neighbours later this year.

Presumably she will make another album.

But that's then. Right now Delta Goodrem, buried in a landslide world of trivia and bunting, Delta between jobs, Delta on Philippoussis's arm, is tedious and annoying. I'm bored with her.

I think thats very unfair. Of course she hasnt done anyhting in the public eye recently for obvious reasons. Its so unfair to criticise her when she hasnt listened to the album or watched neghbours. Perhaps if she had she would realise how talented she is and what a great singer/songwriter she is.

Oh well, they suceeded in their objective. They only write things like thise to gain the attention of others. Better off just ignoring it. They want people to talk about the article, etc, etc. In the sense. Write something good about someone and 2 people will hear about it, say something bad and 20 people will read it..

You've gotta laugh at this guy though. He says that Delta's done nothing at all and then proceeds to list everything she has done and achieved! Talk about mixed up.

this Rex guy clearly has no idea what he is talking about !! it is opinions like that that cause problems.

There are more pictures of her "doing nothing" because the amount of media interest in her has increased, and photographers are following her more closely. There's nothing to write about if you remember this. Why write about it at all?

Oh, and the obvious fact that she currently IS doing something, but then that's better left out because it goes against his point.

The person who wrote that article obviously lives alone, is a jealous pig with no life and filled with envy of a person with a heart since obviously he does not have one. Having observed all these happenings from the USA thousands of miles away I can say that Delta has excelled and will hopefully prove herself over time. Her first few steps out were hugely successful with her CD recording, TV and now a movie. She is regrouping and preparing for another major push which hopefully her health will allow. Anyone who has listened to her songs (the words) and seen her image and heard her speak knows that there is incredible depth to the goodness within her. I find her to be enjoyable and inspirational and yet feel and sense from her lyrics that she knew a major challenge with health was in front of her. The writer also disqualified himself of having a worthy opinion by saying he did not listen or watch her yet he knew too much which undoubtedly qualifies him as a liar and someone who was probably on a deadline and needed to submit something to be published.
In the USA we would call him a hack and he would wind up writing for a tabloid so he could surely display his lack of talent. God be with Delta and I look forward to seeing her tour the USA and share her brilliance with us. I am lucky enough to have travelled to Europe where I first heard her music and bought her CD and DVD.

I just sent him a highly abusive email which made me feel great lmao that stated everything she has been doing lately and thean very kindly told him to stick it up his ars#.

So much for her doing nothing - working on a new album, filming final episodes on neighbours, making a movie and touring in europe.

To whom ever you are,

I am writing a reply to your article about Delta Goodrem and Mark Philippoussis. I find it disgusting that you could talk about Delta and Mark like that. Do you know them personally? I for one think that every comment you made about them both is out of pure jealousy.

You say you didn’t hear about Delta winning 7 Aria awards…what have you been doing living in a hole the past year? You say you haven’t heard a note from her album, well instead of making tacky and disgraceful comment’s about it, get off your bum, go out and buy it.

You say Delta has been doing nothing. Well if you haven’t noticed, a couple of months ago she finished Chemotherapy and Radiation Therapy. I would like to see you go through what she did and come out looking 1 million dollars and bouncing off the walls. She has been trying to keep a low profile. She is currently at the moment writing songs for her 2nd album, promoting in the UK and having meetings with the head of Sony in America. Plus she has just finished filming her finals scenes for Neighbours and just wrapped up her first debut movie.

You say she has been doing nothing. Well as stated above it proves she has. I am sure if Delta played tennis and was up for it she would be out on the court playing with Mark, but that just isn’t the case.

She is a singer/songwriter not a professional sports star. Just because she sits in the crowd and cheers on her boyfriend doesn’t mean she is useless.

If she was nobody then why do you see pictures of her everywhere, in papers, magazines etc.

I just think you are jealous. You are known as a meaningless journalist who has nothing better to do than bag out celebrities. Maybe one day you will cross paths with Mark and Delta and realise underneath all glamour and spot light they are just 2 ordinary people in love.

Well... I was actually thinking the same thing as that writer just this morning. He does have a point. Delta is becoming simply an extenstion of Mark at the moment. Think about it like an outsider for a moment. Like someone who doesn't closely follow Delta's every move. Anything that actually makes Aus papers is about Mark. Try typing 'Delta Goodrem' into google news search and see what you get. Mark has been a fantastic publicity kick for Delta. I can understand where he is coming from.
