Like I stated in my other thread, I received a call from 106.5 saying that I won tickets to the concert. I don't actually get tangible tickets, but my name was added to the guest list. Super exciting, I know. It was the first contest I ever won on a radio show, so I was extremely ecstatic! To make matters even greater, it was for a Delta show. I have never seen Delta in person, so I was determined to make it to the concert. By skipping class.
So my sister and I got to Bella Mia around 4:30PM. The doors to the upstairs concert opens at 5:30PM, but I wanted to make sure I get good seats. So we just sat around for an hour. It wasn't too bad since I was so hyped up. After the hour passed, we went upstairs to the room where she would be performing. We met the Mix 106.5 correspondent and she asked for my name. I told her my name, and she took forever to search for it. And TO MY HORROR, she said that my name was not on the list.
I almost had a heart attack. I swear I felt my heart shatter to pieces. She was like, "I'm sorry, you're not on the list so we can't let you in". I was going to punch her in the face. So...not taking no for an answer, I insisted that someone called me and told me that I won. She said that NOBODY wins tickets unless they call in during the show. BUT, I swear to god that somebody did indeed call me, so I persisted. Eventually, I took my phone out and showed her the number that someone called me with. They recognized the number and luckily let me in. Even now, I'm still thanking God!Anyways, after that whole misunderstanding, everyone started to pile into the room. It was actually jam packed with people, so Yay Delta! Everyone waited and waited until 6:00PM came around. Supposedly, Delta was supposed to perform at 6:00. When I looked at my watch, it was 6:15 and still no Delta! I was starting to get anxious and worried that she wouldn't show up. I bought Jon McLaughlin tickets and she canceled that, so I thought that I had extremely bad luck when it came to her. Time flew by, and still no Delta. Everyone started to murmur. 6:25 came around, then 6:30. Finally, someone stepped on stage and told all of us what was going on. Apparently there was a huge miss communication and Delta thought that she was performing at 6:30. Silly Delta! She reassured us that she was leaving her hotel and coming immediately. So we all waited patiently until her arrival. About 10 minutes later, the woman came to the stage again to tell us that Delta was doing a sound check and would come on in 3-4 minutes. So again, we sat and waited. Yes, there was a lot of waiting, but it was well worth it.
SO, finally after 2 hours of waiting, the woman came back and told us that the performance would begin. I turned my back to face the door, and I saw Delta standing there looking so gorgeous. I almost fainted then and there. I know I sound like a complete loser, but I couldn't keep myself from shaking. I was finally meeting Delta! After 5 long years of following her every move! She came into the room with Rich, and looked a bit shy from the loud cheering. She wasn't expecting such an enthusiastic crowd and she told us that she loved it! She talked a bit about random stuff, mainly about how awesome we all were. She said that she was shocked by the turn out and said that we must all be Australian! When she found out that we were all American, she was very happy. After a bit more talking, she began her show. She also sang a bit of the American national anthem, which was adorable! Oh, and she wished some guy in the room a sweet happy birthday.
The first song she sang was 'In This Life'. The performance was simply breathtaking. She had an amazing voice tonight and it was well appreciated by everyone in the room. After she finished, the room erupted with applause.
Afterwards, she sang 'Burn For You'. She made several comments before about how it was a sad song and that we should all cuddle up together. She was so funny throughout the entire night, making witty remarks here and there. She was amazing on this song as well.
Next, she sang 'You Will Only Break My Heart'. She did the whole 'nuh uh uh uh' thing in the beginning and told everyone to sing along with her. She sang that bit and then held out the microphone for everyone to sing it. The first time, nobody sang. She was taken aback and joked that she and Richard were leaving. Everyone was like "NOOO!". And then she was like, "well then you guys have to sing with me!" So she did it again, and told the girls to go first. So we were all like "nuh uh uh uh..." and she was happy. Then the boys had their turn. This one guy sang it really loud and well, and she was shocked. As a reward, he danced with her for the entire song and god a kiss at the end. Lucky guy! She also did a bit of Justin Timberlake in the middle of her song. Cute!
For the fourth song, she sang 'Believe Again'. Again, amazing performance that really showed off her vocal ability. Pure talent.
'Possesionless' was next. Another amazing performance that had the crowd erupting in cheers.
Afterward, she surprised us all by singing 'Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas'. She stated several times in the song that it was a month early, which was really cute. Then, in the middle of the song, she forgot the words! She was like.."have yourself a merry....."...and then trailed off. She then looked at Richard and they had a little laugh. She said "I know those aren't the words" and the whole crowd laughed. She just turned her back to us and hid in embarrassment. A while later, she gathered herself together and sang the rest of the song flawlessly. Another great vocal.
After that performance. She asked if anyone had any requests. These girls shouted out 'Not Me, Not I'. She was like, "wow we're going way back", but obliged nonetheless. With Richard on the guitar, she sang the song. During the part when she sang 'yeah you broke my heart', she followed it by saying "true story!" Everyone laughed out loud. Then she was like, "Sorry, I don't mean to be rude." She was soo cute.
She talked a bit more, and chatted with a few people. She asked if anyone had any questions, and someone asked if she would sing 'Breathe In, Breathe Out'. She said, "wow, you even listen to b-sides!" She sang a bit of it while standing. Everyone cheered. Then she went to her piano and started to play it while singing! She stopped mid-verse and asked the lady who requested the song to come up and sing with her. The woman nearly jumped out of her seat. Delta was sooooo sweet to let her do that. Also, it was nice to hear a b-side live!
Lastly, Delta performed 'Black Velvet'. It was a lovely performance and it was a good way to end the show. Again, flawless performance.
Wow...so that was a pretty long recount, but it doesn't even add up to how amazing the performance was. I had such a great time and am looking forward to hearing from her soon. I took a bunch of pictures, which I'll post as soon as I can! I also got a picture with Dale.
Unfortunately, Richard left the room really quick, I'm not sure why. After the performance, they set up a table for her to chat with everyone. She handed out signed and personalized autographs to everyone while Dale took pictures for the person. When it came to my turn, I surprisingly couldn't stop blabbing. I gave her my gift (chocolate truffles and a letter), and got a picture with her. In return, she gave me two big hugs!!
She was sooo gorgeous. While standing next to her, my sister and I felt like scum. Her beauty just radiated! So there's no question that Delta is beyond amazing. She is so sweet and funny, and so much more beautiful in person. Thank you soooo much Delta for giving me such a wonderful day! I will never forget it!
To the forumers, she mentioned that today's performance is the last US show for a year!!
She's heading back to Australia tomorrow to begin her tour. Lucky Aussies! Hopefully she'll come back to the US soon! Also, I mentioned Brian, and she said that he's a good man!
