OPENING day figures for Australia in the US suggest the film is a bomb, taking a tiny amount at the box-office in a week dominated by teen tingler Twilight.
According to figures posted by Variety, the movie made $3.4 million in its first day of opening there, with a measly per screen average of $1318, as compared to the $35,055 per screen earned by box office leader Twilight.
In the all-important lead up to the Thanksgiving holiday in the US, the film seems likely to be swamped by the teen vampire romance, despite glowing endorsement from the all-powerful Oprah Winfrey.
Australia is the most expensive movie ever made in this country, with a price tag of $197 million.
It made a healthy $1.3 million on its opening day in Australia on Wednesday, although not enough to beat Quantum of Solace's opening day of $2 million the week before.
