As we all know, there are many guests who lurk on the forum or people from other forums who quote us or media who quote us. I thought if people had to log on that would help curb that. I know it's done on other forums (Veronicas etc) what does everyone else think?

YES!
i've been thinking about this for a long time now.
how dare the media come storming in here & quote US?!?
we're just normal people on a forum supporting delta.
really, they have no right

i think this should be put forward...it will stop a lot.

It would be good for that stuff but think of people like Sam with the ASCII names

all the symbols and stuff.

Well it's the internet, it's not like we have copyright laws on everything we post, so actually they do have every right

They can tick the box that says "remain logged in" so they stay logged in even when they leave

I don't mean log in every single time just that you have to log in to view the forum.

I like that idea alot. They have it on another forum I'm a member of. Or even if they just do it for certain areas..

What's to stop people from the media just making an account?
I don't like it how they made The Veronicas board viewable by members only, sooo many noobs have joined up since and it's hell annoying =|

I don't think this should happen for one reason mainly. Potential US (and other countries also) people could come on and read about her before deciding to join. Otherwise people could just say 'f@$k it. I'm not registering' and leave, and potentially this could lower Delta's fan base!

I think it's a good idea. If people don't want to post, they don't have to. I'm on other forums where people have to join to get on and heaps of people sign up but just don't post.
I'm not sure it'd really fix the problem, though...It takes 5 seconds to make an account.

I don’t think we should block the entire forum. If I want to check something quickly I generally won't log in.
You could block select sections from showing up when you’re not logged in. I could see that working better.

Josh, why are you doing that?

To everyone:
I don't see what the big deal is if they publish something you say.
Good on you for actually saying something they deem usable to print.
You should be honoured not offended.

It won't stop the media or anyone else from reading anything. They will join the forum so they can read it.
It is annoying having to sign in all the time on The Veronicas forum. If you did have to sign in to read this one, I hope the 'Keep me signed in' thing would still work!

Argh, no. I hate that idea.
I had to create an account for Doctor Who Forums (the old Outpost Gallifrey) just to read it. Well, I posted once and then got scared because it's huge. So yeah, I have an account there just to try and find out what the next classic Who release is going to be and what's happening with certain Big Finish lines.
Wow what a tangent at the end.

agreed, also ppl might just want to join to be able a look around and if they dont like it and leave. We will end up with thousands of ppl join but never post (not that we dont already have thousands of members with 0 posts)

Alot of people lurk before joining.
I lurked on the graphics section for about two months before registering and reading the posts was what made me finally make that step. I never register on forums that you can't see what is going on. They could be dead, full of nastyness. Unless you can see before hand what goes on on the message board I think many people would simply not register. I wouldn't have.
I also agree with everyone who has mentioned how easy it would be for the media to mae accounts and gain access to the forum. Maybe we just have to be aware our comments here are public and if we wouldn't want to see something quoted maybe it should be saved for private conversations. It's hard to edit yourself I know but just maybe keep it mind.

i knew about this forum for about a year before i joined. i would come on and check DR and updates on the new album. i didn't join until i found i was coming on almost daily. it was about the time they redid the site. it's lures you in coz it's so addictive and you find you want to start replying and asking qs so you eventually join. worked for me and prolly loads others. now i'm on it all the time
whenever i'm on a website for something i'm a fan of- music, books, movies, etc- i usually go to the forum to see what it's like and if it's worth joining. if it says i have to join in order to view 9 times out of 10 i'll say screw it and go on to something else. some forums are dull or bland looking and not worth joining. most of the one's i've joined without having the option to scope it out ended up being just that- dull and bland looking. except for the Veronicas forum. but i'm not on that one much anyway.

Forcing people to log in to see a forum can discourage them from accessing the forum full stop. If they can browse for a while to get to know what the forum is like, it helps people to join. Forcing them to log in some people might log in just to see what the forum is like, then change their mind about being a member, others just won't join because they don't want to join a forum they have no idea what it's like.
I understand where you're coming from in relation to the media quoting us, but is it really that big of a deal? In terms of frequency and subjects we're quoted on.
