1. Changing of display names (usernames)
Okay, I think its been discussed about the changing of usernames.

I think every 2000 posts, the user has an option to change their username.
Or every like. 5 months.

But I don't know if that could work?

2. Second idea, Can the tour section be moved as a sub forum to DR. Like. A link at the top of DR.
Because for the next 5 or so months. All DR news will be mostly about the tour. & its kinda dead since all the topic moved from DR because no-one goes to the tour section.

I like the first idea, but that you'd ahve to get permission first. Cos it'd be wayy to hard to keep up with who's who.

i honestly think each member should get one username change whenever they want. once you change it, it can't be changed again.
& i really agree with the second idea...nobody can find it in tour section

As much as the changing username idea is a good one I'd worry about how easy it would be to do on a forum of this size.

If Admin had to approve each member name change they might be dealing with hundreds in one day - added work that could be spent doing something more worthwhile in my opinion.

artin can't change your username anyway.

I think the username's idea would confuse people way too much. Besides if you really wanted a new username, just create another account.

why should we have to do that though? its annoyng and tiresome.

Why should Admin have to change hundreds of usernames? That too would be annoying and tiresome.

It's a lot easier for 1 person to make a new account, than one person to change hundreds of usernames.

Not everyone can make a new account. Its their job to change it!
Some people might have picked a wrong name and they might get bullied and some other reasons that are important that they want to change it.
And making more accounts would make the forum slower than it already is.

If it was their job to change usernames, the option would already exist. If they included it as an option, it still wouldn't be their job, it would be an added extra.

People don't usually pick a name that is wrong at the time they make their account, just because they don't like it later doesn't mean they have the right to change it.

If they get bullied because of the username, then I'd recommend talking to a mod or admin about changing it, explaining the specific circumstances. Bullying is a different thing than just not liking your username anymore.

More accounts, as far as I'm aware, do not slow down the forum. It's the amount of people using the forum at the same time that slows it down.

you can't use the same email on multiple accounts anyway.

I chose mine thinking it would be a 'backup' but then I never recieved an email to my other account and was stuck with a stupid username I didnt even want. I get bullied because of it. But Nimba doesnt answer pms. So I dont know what to do.

Maybe try to resend the email for the other account!

nimda has a busy life. why do you get bullied because of it?

The thing is, if nimda decides it's OK to change the usernames of people like JamesUK, Cass, Martin, Joshua and Deltascotsfan (there may be more), then I don't see why other users should be discriminated against.

Well we all (well I) had a valid excuse for the change in my username, which i choose not to discuss.

Plus all the names you mentioned are all particullarly active members, so nimda wouldn't have to think twice about changing the usernames.

I don't think it's a matter of discriminating against other members, more a matter of having other, more important things to do with nimda's time. If you have a very valid reason then it is nimda's discretion whether s/he acts in changing the username. But I doubt s/he would ever offer it as an available option to the forum as a whole.

I do think it's discrimination if nimda chooses to do it for some members over others, but that's debatable.
And I keep hearing about this "valid reason" - anyone care to give me an example of one of these?
Now I don't actually know how much nimda does, so I don't want to criticise him/her, but to be honest, I haven't seen a great deal of evidence of the more important things that s/he has to do.
But I do appreciate everything you have done, nimda.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I just think there should be one rule for all.

Nimda is extremely busy and can't come on to just change usernames. Nimda doesn't only work on the forum, nimda has other duties to do for Sony

Thecontroller, if you find it so discriminating, why don't you just ask nimda to change your name then? If your so eager to have it avalible to the whole forum just to confuse everyone?

I dont think nimda would answer him though...I dont get replies on things..neither do any of my friends on here. So, I think we are stuck with them

Thanks for telling me - I wasn't at all trying to suggest that nimda was lazy; I just didn't know what his/her job entails.


That's not what I want; I'm just interested in equality for all members.
And I have already asked nimda, but s/he hasn't replied - that's probably from where the source of all my anger on the matter is coming.
I wouldn't actually mind too much if nimda didn't change my username, but I just want a reply saying that s/he has at least acknowledged my request, but it is not possible for him/her to fulfill it.

If you need your name changed, send through a request via PM. If you have a good reason, your name is more likely to be changed. I am happy to change member's names, but make sure your new name is one you want to keep. There are alot of requests for name changes and unfortunately I don't have the time to change them all. However, if you've got a good reason, I'll log in and change it.
