Also for the second time on an idol show, the format for eliminations in the Top 12 round will be different as once announced the bottom 3 of the week, the voting line will be opened again for voting for the people who are in the bottom 3, in order to save the best 2 out of the 3 and keep the best singer in the competition. Music Idol, the Bulgarian version of Idol, were the first to use this new format in their second season. New Zealand Idol season 3 used a similar format for the second week of the finals, but dropped it afterwards.

I love Idol, can't wait to uncover some more talent this year smile.gif Plus you didn't mention about the format changing to the same as the American Format:

Final 24 Revealed
Final 24 Perform; 2 Guys 2 Girls Eliminated
Final 20 Perform; 2 Guys 2 Girls Eliminated
Final 16 Perform; 2 Guys 2 Girls Eliminated
Final 12 Revealed

Dunno if that makes sense to anybody lol, it's the way American Idol does their Semi-Final rounds, and now we are doing the same.

From tvtonight.com.au and Australia.to:

Telstra has chosen not to renew its sponsorship of Australian Idol this year, following a 19 percent slump in viewing numbers last season.
Procter & Gamble, which makes products including Head and Shoulders, Duracell, Braun, Pantene, Oral-B, and Pringles and Maybelline (Idol's makeup product), has also discontinued its involvement.
But Ten sales officer Vance Rothringer yesterday announced Sony Ericsson as a new 'top tier' sponsor.
McDonalds, Mazda and Cadbury Schweppes have all renewed their sponsorship.

This means Ten must find another telco for the voting lines. Given Hutchison Telecom's 3 is already involved in Big Brother, it's likely Ten will turn to Optus (which sponsored So You Think You Can Dance Australia) again.

Natalie has spent a couple of months in Malta. She is now in Melbourne recording songs for her first major album. (Speaking of Natalie, I have been absent from her forum for two months)

In melb first audition is at Moonee pond, second round is at the melb exhibition centre where they get to be on tv and see the 3 judges and it go on for 3 days. Pretty funny seeing ppl standing around singing/practicing and you so can tell who made and who dont when they come out of the lift laugh.gif

OK, I've found the article from the State Library's newspaper section on Saturday. It's from suburban paper Star (Werribee, Point Cook edition) on May 20, 2008. I think the paper took the risk knowing there was an embargo on revealing names until the semi-finalists are revealed, and there is a possibility that the person identified could be disqualified, but here it is.

Brooke Addamo breaks into Idol 100
by Karen Poh

WERRIBEE songbird Brooke Addamo is in the running to be the next Australian Idol.
The 17-year-old made it through three rounds of auditions to enter the Australian Idol Top 100 list. Despite her nerves, Ms Addamo's rendition of the Julie London hit Cry Me A River and Coldplay's The Scientist earned praise from Kyle Sandilands, Ian D!ckson and Marcia Hines at her latest round of auditions last Wednesday.
"I was nervous, but I was also excited to sing. Before going in I just kept on doing my warm-ups, warming up my voice, drinking water," Ms Addamo said.
"I didn't expect it, but I got three yesses from the judges."
The Galvin Park Secondary College student will head to Sydney to compete (at the Top 100 auditions) at the end of next month.
"I'm really excited to go to Sydney. I got a package in the mail from them with my tickets and everything," she gushed. With all the buzz, "it's going to he hard to concentrate (on school)", Ms Addamo admits.
But the 2007 Teen Idol winner is shy about her prospects of making it to the Idol finals. "You never know with things like that. I could go to Sydney for just one day," she said. "I'm just going to go in there, practise, practise, practise, and just try my best and do everything to the best of my family," she said.
Readers can listen to Ms Addamo singing on www.myspace.com/brookeaddamo

I may be right but the problem is the semis will clash with the Beijing Olympics on Channel Seven! If Ten wants to keep the semis away from the Olympics it could air the best performances of Idol from the past 5 years on Sunday nights (August 10, 17 and 24), and start the semis on August 25. If the latter option is taken, there could be performances on Monday (August 25), Wednesday (August 27) and Sunday (August 31), with the 12 finalists revealed on Monday September 1 as before.

The final 9 performance on September 28 may be shown live in Perth to allow Ten to telecast the Formula One Grand Prix direct from Singapore, the first F1 race to be held at night.
