Is she the youngest contestant in this year's competition?
From yesterday's Herald Sun:
Tiana Stamenkovic has overcome bullying to be in the running for the latest Australian Idol
by Kelly Ryan
A TEENAGER who was bullied at school over her singing has turned it to her advantage, and now her career is soaring.
Tiana Stamenkovic floundered at first under the constant teasing by her female tormenters.
But she fought back; first by co-writing and recording a song about the cruel experience.
Having found the voice to speak out, the high school student is now finding fame singing a different tune.
Songs of heartache were been replaced by happy tunes as she joined hundreds of other starry-eyed hopefuls auditioning for the latest Australian Idol.
About 1500 entrants have been whittled down to 250, and Tiana is among them.
Tiana, 13, who lives with her mum Mellena and grandmother in Thornbury, hopes the show will help her break into the big time.
She said recording and cutting her own CD on her bullying experiences had given her confidence to stretch her wings vocally.
"I realised that I was a lot more determined and stronger than I knew, and from there my dreams just continue to grow."
Voice coach Steve Zammit, a former Young Talent Team member, explained he related to Tiana's experience of being bullied.
"I certainly experienced a lot of it too," he said.
"It was easy to co-write on this one because we both had an understanding.
"Anything that hurts resonates and stays with you as a valuable, if painful lesson."
He expects big things of Tiana down the track.
"She is a talented, talented young lady.
