Prepare to lose your bet!

I liked Brooke and the last guy. Marty Summo or something like that. I didn't catch it! I could be completely wrong with his name!

Last night's Idol did very well, averaging nearly 1.4 million viewers in five major cities and peaking at 1.8 million. It beat 60 Minutes and finishing second behind the Olympics coverage.
I notice this pic from Delta Related, taken by innocently_mistaken at last Thursday’s Parramatta instore:

5 out of 6 Australians watch Idol every year? That's a bit exaggerated.

OK so it's not the full list of 34 successful Melbourne auditionees but it's the 13 that had their full auditions shown last night so if anyone wants names here they are (and they are shown in order of when they were shown last night)

- James Sidebottom, 24, VIC
- Chris Fatouros, 25, VIC
- Sarah Carnegie, 27, VIC
- Tatum Jackson, 21, VIC
- Casey Freeman, 23, VIC
- Rebecca Simani, 18, VIC
- Brooke Addamo, 17, VIC
- Amanda Grafinakis, 24, VIC
- Lindsay West, 30, VIC
- Steven Jaz, 27, VIC
- Nicole Banks, 18, VIC
- Thanh Bui, 25, VIC
- Mark Spano, 26, VIC

And I thought I'd give my opinions on them too so here's what I thought:

James was good but he has image problems so he might not make it to Top 24.
Chris was only average so I don't think he'll go much further.
Sarah is pretty talented so a possible Final 24 spot could go to her.
Tatum was one that I really liked but her soft voice can only do so much you know.
Casey will definitley make the Final 24 as she is very different and unique.
Rebecca is another one that I think will go Top 24 'cause she has a great voice and a good pop look.
Brooke is an obvious contender and I wouldn't be surprised if she goes all the way.
Amanda will probably make the Final 24 but I don't think she's got the goods to stick around after that.
Lindsay has been here before and he sucked then so I can't see him getting any better.
Steven was a bit creepy for my likings but I think he could do well but he has no personality.
Nicole is way too broadway/musical and it's hard to beat it out of them so she'll struggle.
Thahn will obviously make the Final 24 and yeah he'll do well this year.
Mark was probably my favourite male from last night and I reckon he'll do well.

My Early Favourites from Melborne: Rebecca, Mark, Tatum, Casey and Brooke.

I think it's like 5 out of 6 Australians have once watched Idol.

Turanga Merito, 23, VIC
Sophie Paterson, 23, who left hometown Maryknoll, in Gippsland, for England, will be seen in the London auditions highlights on Wednesday.

I was checking the audition details posted at tvaus.com.au and found that Perth auditions were actually held BEFORE Melbourne. Perth auditions were held on May 4 at Ascot Racecourse, before the second round was held at Royal Perth Yacht Club as shown tonight. This was followed by auditions at Melbourne Park (May 9-11) before second round took place at the MCG during the week.

I figured they'd do that to make the entertaining parts go first up or something. To try and get people interested.

I doubt London was in the middle of the auditions too. Unless I am mistaken.

This is somewhat related to Idol: Reuters reports that Kara DioGuardi, who co-wrote several songs on MI and IE albums, will join American Idol next year as the fourth judge. It follows the exit of producer Nigel Lithgoe, best known as an on air judge on So You Think You Can Dance US.

BIG Brother babe Vesna Tofevska has lashed out at the producers of Australian Idol, claiming the show has wrecked her boyfriend's singing career.
The ex-housemate feels she was duped into undermining her beau Sebastian Pluchinotta, who goes by Sebastian L'Roy, in Sunday night's audition episode.
"We've been made a mockery of," Tofevska said. "He sang another song before they called me in, but they only aired the silly song we sang together. This could affect his career."
A Ten spokeswoman was apologetic yesterday, saying: "Ten has a long association with Vesna and we have the utmost respect for her."

The first musical theme for the Final 12 sing-off in Australian Idol will be Idol's Idol. According to Channel Ten's press release, the contestants will choose a song by their favourite musical performer, Australian or international.

i didnt really like that Madam girl who got in tonight ... she was the final one through
johnson
Madam is from New Zealand like Ricki-Lee. Will Madam be as successful as the latter though?

Now the auditions are over, here again is the breakdown of top 100, and the semi-finals format, posted on page 9 of this thread.

This year's Top 40 contestants in Australian Idol are in for a new challenge. In previous years the final 40 have had to sing before the judges, who whittle them down again. Now the group have to sing before a live audience in a packed theatre.
24 of them will then make it through to the semi finals which will be stripped by TEN across the week of September 1-4 at 7:30pm, live from FOX Studios.
Six contestants (mixed groups of males and females) perform for the viewers' vote. The following night the verdict is announced, with the male and female with the highest votes making it through to the Top 12.
According to TEN's press info, this year's Australian Idol TOP 100 is actually 106 including London expats. However a quick calculation of the state by state finalists only adds up to 98.
The show launches on Sunday August 24 with an audition week immediately thereafter and a week of semi finals the following week.

Top 100 breakdown
NSW: 20 finalists (8 females and 12 males)
QLD: 17 finalists (11 females and 6 males)
SA: 6 finalists (2 females and 4 males)
TAS: 2 finalists (1 male and 1 female)
VIC: 36 finalists (19 females and 17 males)
WA: 17 finalists (10 females and 7 males)

Revised schedule for the second half of Australian Idol 2008:

September 14/15: Final 12 performance and verdict (Theme: Idol's Idol, or Top 12 finalists' favourite singers)
September 21/22: Final 11 performance and verdict (AFL Brownlow Medal Count on September 22)
September 28/29: Final 10 performance and verdict
October 5/6: Final 9 performance and verdict
October 12/13: Final 8 performance and verdict
October 19/20: Final 7 performance and verdict (ARIA Awards on October 19)
October 26/27: Final 6 performance and verdict
November 2/3: Final 5 performance and verdict

She reminds me of Emily Williams. I hate it how we have had an Emily for the past few years.

We had Emily Williams. Then Lavigna. Now this chick. It just bugs me. I hate them! Sure they can sing, but it's nothing we haven't heard before. To me they sound like crap when they get to the live performances. Just shouting in tune basically. It's annoying! dry.gif
