SINGER Brooke Addamo is on the brink of national stardom in this year's Australian Idol competition.
The Werribee teenager has made it through to the top 24 singers, and will now rely on the public's vote to get her through to the top 12 when the show goes to air in late August.
Brooke, 17, can expect instant fame and the opportunity to perform in front of millions of television viewers if she makes it to the top 12.
She would follow in the footsteps of previous Wyndham Idols, Anthony Callea (second in 2004) and Ricky Muscat (fifth in 2006).
Idol producers Channel 10 will be in Werribee next Thursday filming Brooke at home and with friends at Galvin Park Secondary College, where she was a year 12 student until putting her studies on hold.
Principal Peter Newlands said students were ecstatic at Brooke's progress.
"We a really proud of her and pleased with her success. She is a terrific kid who's very focussed on her goals and achievements in life. Brooke is a successful student as well as being a high achiever in the area of music," Mr Newlands said.
The college's music teacher Daniella Angelico has worked with Brooke for three years and said she has shown great commitment.
"Initially she was not confident at auditioning and I was encouraging her to do that. So to hear that she came in the top 100 was wonderful, but now she's in the top 24 is even better," Ms Angelico said.
"We are really proud of her and we think she's got a very strong chance (of progressing)."

She is also featured on the Channel 10 advertisement for Idol.

^ I would think breaking the embargo is a no-no (it's quoted in today's Herald Sun). But I saw the new Idol ad tonight during The Simpsons, and it did show the people singing Can You Feel It were all this year's top 100. So Brooke could be among them.

Well like said before, this year's top 100 looks like a talented but mixed bunch- i think it will be hard to choose who will go into the top 12.

Idol starts August 31st.
Brooke Addamo is amazing, Vote for her.
It has also been confirmed that Chrislyn Hamilton has made top 24
by her local newspaper.

Teenage singing sensation Chrislyn Hamilton has gone from singing karaoke to being ranked as one of the top 24 contestants for the 2008 Australian Idol competition.

The 17-year-old Redcliffe State High School student travelled to Sydney in June as part of the top-100 contestants and then impressed the judges again, making it through to the top 50.

Chrislyn learnt two weeks ago that she was part of the top 24 singers in the national competition.

Now she aims to be in her best-ever form to be among the top-12 Idol contestants.

Her good friend Diane Carrig said she could not be more proud of her former karaoke friend.

“I first met Chrislyn when she was 14 and was singing at the Redcliffe Leagues Club karaoke contest,” she said.

“All of us encouraged her to go for Idol last year, but she didn’t think she was good enough. We all think she is absolutely fabulous.”

Chrislyn’s musical talents were recognised at an early age. At the age of seven she won her first talent quest in Mt Isa and later, at 13, took up musical roles at Redcliffe State High.

Her singing hero is soul diva Aretha Franklin and she plans to pursue a singing career with the Conservatorium of Music.

“I perform because I love to do it. It’s really not about possible fame and fortune,” she said.

* Australian Idol season six will premiere on Channel Ten on August 31.

Returning: Australian Idol
Australian Idol returns for its sixth season at 7:30pm Sunday August 24.
It begins with a 90 minute Australian Idol: Launch followed by Rove / Dexter at 9:00 and 10:10pm.
TEN will then strip a week of 1 hr Australian Idol: Auditions from Monday Aug 25 to Friday Aug 29, bumping regular shows including So You Think You Can Dance to 9:30pm Wed, and America's Next Top Model out of schedule on both Sunday / Monday Aug 24 / 25.
Launching the show on the final night of the Olympics is a strategic move by TEN a week away from the launch of Dancing with the Stars on Sundays. It benefits from the fact that the Olympics Closing Ceremony doesn't begin until 10pm that night, effectively allowing the audience a big night of variety across two channels.
This season also includes auditions of expat Aussies in London with judging from Darren Hayes and Tina Arena.
A repeat of Thank God You're Here airs 6:30pm Sun Aug 24. Burn Notice is also out on Monday 25th, replaced with a movie from 8:30pm.

When Australian Idol kicks off in two weeks you can expect to see quite a few new changes to the series.
One is the addition of Ricki Lee Coulter as a backstage host to the show. Coulter, a former contestant, will be poised with a microphone ready to hear from the singers as they leave the live performance stage. Also offering "a shoulder to cry on," Coulter is likely to glean a lot of raw and emotional responses.
As with the US series, the sixth instalment of the talent show will also add guest judges and mentors, and new themed nights. The US has had 'Dolly Parton week' and 'Gloria Estefan week.' Whose back catalogues would you like to see here? Barnsy? Farnsy? Kylie? Crowded House?
There are also changes to the Monday night verdict show. Preliminary results will be announced at the the start of each verdict show and the voting lines re-opened. While being dubbed as a "vital second chance to save their favourite Idol", it's also a nice little money spinner.

Source: tvtonight.com.au

I have already posted at the website exposing the potential problems with the new verdict show format. Time differences mean SA and NT viewers will have less than 30 minutes to vote while WA people won't be able to vote at all.

Australian Idol judge Kyle Sandilands says he won't hold back from telling tubby contestants they need to lose weight on this year's series of the TV singing contest.
When the Network Ten show returns later this month, Sandilands says viewers will be surprised to see that he has put through many "hugely overweight girls".
"People for some reason think I don't like women that are overweight," Sandilands told AAP.
"But I want everyone to be the best they can be, and if they're fat then I say to them then they should lose weight."
In 2005 Sandilands outraged viewers for describing eventual winner Kate DeAraugo, as having "tuck shop lady arms".
He says he sympathises with anyone battling with their weight.
"I'm fat myself. I have to lose weight, but every Sunday I tell myself I should and I'll start on Monday, but I don't,"he said. "So I know it's difficult."
With auditions filmed in the past few months, Sandilands believes the new series will be the best ever thanks to a series of changes.
Aside from the addition of former Idol contestant Ricky Lee Coulter as a host, and Mark Holden being cut from the judging panel, the changes include the introduction of a band and live audience to the round where contestants are culled from 100 to 24.
"Every year they come in and they say, we're used to performing with a band and an audience, and this is a very different experience for us," Sandilands said.
"So we've given them a band this year and a full audience, so they - their pants when they walk in with their band and their audience and they have to sing - boom, straight away."
"We've reacted to what the contestants have been whingeing about for a few years."
Producers are in talks to get big-name mentors from the US to appear on the show, said Sandilands.
"It's a much better idea than having a big band night. Who gives a - about that? I'd rather have a Kelly Rowland night or Beyonce night or something a little bit fresh," Sandilands said.
"I've been talking about mentors for years. I'm not talking your Kate Ceberanos - I'm talking your big international stars like big international guests."
The contestants will also be more "folksy" than in previous years, he said.
Sandilands said, while he missed Holden on the panel, it was much easier having only three judges.
"You couldn't really get your teeth into any particular issue because there wasn't enough time."
And viewers can expect fireworks between Sandilands and D!cko once again.
"He's an old man, he likes old man singing," Sandilands said.
"I'm a bit more open to something new and different, and he isn't.
"If he can't relate to someone that's already been a musical success he can't really see where they fit.
"He's used to cloning artists, whereas I'm for individuality, something fresh and new."
The sixth series will air from August 24.

Also, 2005 Australian Idol winner Kate DeAraugo has explained her mysterious withdrawal from her Jenny Craig endorsement deal. According to the Daily Telegraph, DeAraugo told the Kyle & Jackie O Show this morning that despite a long-term battle with the bulge, she struggled to drop any weight on the program because her body had trouble digesting the recommended food.
After first stating she was unable to digest gluten - a condition known as coeliacs disease - DeAraugo then said she was lactose intolerant after being prompted by Sandilands. Lactose intolerance refers to the inability to process diary.

QUOTE(miffta @ Aug 10 2008, 09:06 PM) *

So if Idol has a Delta week, then would contestants only choose from her singles or all her songs?

It would be any song, but the singles would be more well-known to casual Delta fans so they'll prob choose those (although someone attempting the Visualise version of LNOE would be AWESOME).
Andrew_1992
andrew's idol idea #1: it should be like so you think u can dance, and the contestant should pick their genre out of a hat, so there wouldnt be theme nights, they would all be different!
